# Dune Rally third-party assets The Oceano UTV vertical slice is self-contained for local play. No endorsement by the creator is implied. ## A note on visual consistency The buggy was built in Google Blocks, so the Poly Pizza models beside it share its faceted low-poly look. The Sketchfab UTV is more detailed. No endorsement by the creator is implied. ## Terrain: USGS 3DEP lidar - Source: [USGS 3D Elevation Program](https://www.usgs.gov/3d-elevation-program), via [The National Map](https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/) - Status: **Public domain.** US government works carry no copyright, so there is no licence to comply with and no attribution obligation. The credit below is given because it is honest, not because it is required. - Local copies: `assets/terrain/-heightmap-1024.png` and `-heightmap.json` Every course is built from real surveyed ground rather than from imagination. Each file is a 3km window over the actual riding area, taken from 1 metre lidar, resampled to 1024 x 1024 and stored as a 16-bit PNG at roughly 2.9m per pixel. The dunes, bowls, beaches and shorelines are where they really are. The lidar carries the shape of the land but cannot carry wind ripples, which are centimetres tall where the data is metres wide, so a small procedural detail term is added on top at runtime. Real bones, procedural skin. Two honest limits. Dunes migrate, so a survey flown some years ago shows sand that has since moved: the macro form holds, individual crests will not. And these are single windows, so each course is a 3km square of a much larger riding area rather than the whole of it. It is wired into the local quad slot for visual development, but the Sketchfab Standard licence does not clear a stand-alone GLB for redistribution in a public repository. Replace it with a commercially usable CC0 or CC BY quad before publishing this asset. ## Removed: PolyOne stylized rock pack Pulled before shipping. The pack carried a CC BY label, but its own description states it is derived from a Sketchfab Standard-licensed pack. That licence is not sublicensable and forbids distributing the asset as a stand-alone file, which is precisely what a .glb in a public repository is. A CC BY label applied to a derivative cannot grant rights the original never granted. Kenney's CC0 rocks in `assets/third-party/scenery/kenney-nature/` are used instead: ten variants, public domain, no attribution required. This is the second asset removed for the same reason, after a quad model under the Sketchfab Standard licence. The lesson both times: check where a pack came FROM, not just the label on it.
